A burnout is a state of emotional and mental exhaustion caused by chronic stress. You will feel increasingly hopeless and detached. Detachment is when you feel disconnected from the people and things around you.
Although a burnout is caused mostly by work-related stress, lifestyle such as lack of work-life balance, also personality traits like perfectionism can also contribute to a burnout.
HOW TO PREVENT BURNOUT?
The key to prevent a burnout is stress management. If you are feeling that your stress is getting out of control, manage it before it turns into a burnout. Manage your stress by reevaluating your priorities of what is important to you and what you should not invest too much of your time and effort on.
HOW TO RECOVER FROM A BURNOUT
If you are already in a burnout, you surely can recover from it. If at this point your job seems unbearable to you, take a short break from it to recover from the stress. You could go on a vacation or just spend some quality time with family and friends to put your mind at ease. Creativity is the antidote to burnout. Try doing something that is not work-related like painting or maybe playing your favorite instrument!
At the end of the day, set apart a time to relax, turn off your phone for a digital detox session and use the time to do relaxing activities like yoga, meditation or reading your favorite book. Also, don’t forget your body! Exercise regularly and get plenty of sleep will also help you recover faster from the burnout.
